Networking Lunch

One of the easiest methods of discovering and creating content is a live event. What’s even better is that it doesn’t have to be a huge deal. If you can get four people to a small lunch and offer to talk them through a subject, they’ll happily spend some time with you. If you want to go larger (which isn’t tough), reach out to networking events and coworking spaces to give a talk for free. It only needs to be 20 minutes and you can have time at the end for Q&A.

The questions that people ask are perfect for new customers and subscribers. Record their questions and your answers. Get the whole thing transcribed and publish the post. Even better, a video recording of that would make a great lead magnet: “See behind the scenes at the whole event and watch the presentation.” Finding 20 or so people to attend a lunch is not hard. It’s just boring. Do some Googling and search for people who it makes sense to give this talk to. The goal is not necessarily to sell to these 20 people. The goal is to present to them and use the presentation and recording as content.

Find 20 people, get their e-mail, and reach out. Don’t use a mass mailer; use your e-mail and explain what you want to do. Make it authentic. Say you’re not pitching, it’s a free event, you are providing some free food (or drink), and you just want to meet some people. Give a date, a time, and the subject. You’ll be surprised how many people attend.

FAQ and SAQ . Following on from a Q&A session, two great pieces of content are frequently asked questions (FAQs) and should as questions (SAQs). Pick a subject and make a list of the questions people always ask about this subject. When you introduce yourself and talk to new customers, they’ll often have the same questions that come up again and again. Check your e-mails from people looking for advice and see what they ask. Often you’ll have more frequent questions than you realize.

Also, think about what people usually think to themselves, but maybe don’t ask: How much does it cost? How easy is it? Scour forums and groups, searching for common questions and advice that people are asking for. Then, make a list of those questions and answer them.

Finally, make sure to create an SAQs post, too, which includes 15 questions you should ask if you want more traffic to your web site. Often, this is more insightful to your customers because they don’t know what they don’t know. Make a list of 10 things you wish people knew before working with you. Make a list of another 10 questions that you ask your customer on a new project. Those 20 questions are probably part of your process. By simply asking them and answering them, you’ve got a beautiful worksheet for customers who sign up. It also makes great blog content.
